Working with forest products research institutes and private forest companies, Lightwave Computing has developed many data acquisition and control appications used in the forest industry.
One client uses our LabVIEW SmartFlow software to manage lumber chemical deposition at 15 mill sites in Canada and the USA. The software has been adapted to work with the existing instrumentation at each site, including various PLC vendors as well as National Instruments Compact Fieldpoint PAC systems. More>>
Gather Tree planter data through Windows Mobile hand held custom DAQ system
LightWave Computing has recently collaborated with forest researchers in British Columbia to develop a portable high-speed data acquisition system to track strain on tree planters while they work. The software was developed in LabVIEW and runs on a Windows mobile PDA platform. Data is acquired through a National Instruments 4 channel high-speed Compact Flash Data Acquisition card.
The LabVIEW mobile module opens up opportunities to develop many new low-cost portable data acquisition applications. LabVIEW’s ability to communicate test results easily from a mobile handset over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections enables users to quickly get results to desktop analysis applications.
Sample Forest Industry Applications developed:
Multiple remote internet controlled Kiln Monitoring Systems
NI Vision OSB chip size analysis software tool
MTS lumber destructive test stand
NI Vision Log Core Analyzer
Veneer moisture measurement software
Duration of load long-term test system
Building envelope moisture testing
Oil and Gas Applications
Lightwave Computing also has experience with Rabbit Semiconductor core modules and single board computers programmed using Dynamic C. We recently developed an embedded test system for monitoring strain and temperature on a 2 kilometre section of gas pipeline in northern Canada.
The Rabbit LP-3500 single board computer used for this application was selected to meet the ultra-low power requirements in a ssytem needed to perform for extended periods of time in frigid conditions. Rabbit semiconductor single board computers are well suited for many other low-cost production applications:
